John Fish has produced artwork for Durban Poison’s single and EP releases that capture the essence of his music – a blending of analog and digital techniques.
Durban Poison is a Melbourne based electronic artist combining real world instrumentation and analog sampling within a shifting electronic framework.
For the single release Shuffle, John Fish aimed to create a digital painting, an abstract swirl of contours analogous to patterns found in a cross section of stone. This subterranean theme closely follows the use repetition and layered loops prevalent throughout the song.
Anticipating the release of his EP, John Fish decided to build a custom neon light sculpture. This was photographed using experimental exposure techniques resulting in a haunting portrait of the artist’s figure within an intense saturated neon glow.
